The Matrix Revolutions: Breakdown

About:

Creating the vast machine city environments for the climactic end sequence was Tippett Studio’s first large-scale foray into CG world building.
The extensive storyboards and detailed concept art by Geof Darrow and George Hull were the foundation driving the look and composition of the key shots.

George Hull – Matrix Revolutions Concept Art

Realizing the rich and specific vision of the Wachowskis in 3D required visualizing how the space and timing of the shots connected together into a cohesive whole.
As lead layout artist for the studio I established the camera staging and built the spatial blockout of the environments, providing the initial geometry for the assets team.

In collaboration with the technical team I helped develop the novel pipeline for working with the large numbers of heavy digital assets.
Guided by visual effects supervisors Craig Hayes I took the shots from previs and matchmove through to final layout and set dressing.
